U of T Computer Science faculty and alumnus among ‘The 50 Most Influential Torontonians’

Two University of Toronto Department of Computer Science faculty members and an alumnus have been named to Toronto Life’s list of ‘The 50 Most Influential Torontonians of 2024,’ an annual ranking of local luminaries “whose courage, smarts and clout are changing the world as we know it.” 

In the 8th spot is University Professor Emeritus Geoffrey Hinton, awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics, is recognized by the publication “for attaining official genius status.” 

Ranked 12th on the list is alumnus Aidan Gomez “because this AI whiz is building our robot future,” writes Toronto Life. Gomez is the co-founder and CEO of Cohere, an enterprise-focused large language model company.  

Associate Professor Sanja Fidler, who is the vice-president of AI Research at Nvidia, is ranked in the 27th spot “for proving the market value of AI.” “Praised as both a brilliant researcher and a great boss, Fidler is bringing a human touch—and the dividends—to the robot revolution,” writes Toronto Life.
