Ramy Zhang at the Ubisoft NEXT competition.
Recent University of Toronto computer science graduate Ramy Zhang took home the top prize in the programming category at Ubisoft NEXT, an annual competition that showcases Ontario's brightest video game development talents across nine disciplines.
Students were tasked with creating a novel approach to a mini-golf game and were judged on code structure, technical challenge, innovation and documentation.
“I'm incredibly thankful that Ubisoft Toronto has provided this pathway for aspiring game devs like me to get a foot in the door,” said Zhang, who graduated in the spring of 2024 with majors in computer science and cognitive science. “I'm honoured to have competed with so many talented and skilled fellow young programmers.”
Zhang received a highly coveted internship at Ubisoft Toronto starting in May 2025 as part of her prize.
“I'm excited to really challenge myself intellectually and learn more about the craftsmanship involved in building games,” she said. “This is such a precious opportunity to work with some of the most talented artists, designers and musicians in Toronto.”
