Obtaining a perfect grade in a fourth-year computer science course was no easy feat, Jing Wang admits. In fact, he says this final year of his undergraduate studies was challenging overall.
Having taken several 400-level CS and math courses, Wang observed that the courses had close connections to active fields of research but also found that they were very intellectually demanding since they tend to involve abstract concepts.
“Sitting in the classroom, I often wished that I could pause the lecture to think more about it,” he shares. “Despite such challenges, I was able to stay resilient and keep my university life organized, and I was happy to find out that I did better in the end than I thought I would.”
As he prepares to graduate and begin a role as a full-time software engineer with Veeva Systems Inc., Wang’s parting advice for future students is to manage their time carefully.
“You will likely have days when multiple deadlines are close to each other; plan ahead for such situations so that you don’t leave everything to the last minute. I usually keep track of all the due dates in a spreadsheet — as a bonus, it gives me a sense of progress as the semester moves through.”
