The third-year computer science specialist was the first individual female finisher in ‘Prosperity,’ a 10-day global market simulation competition, hosted by IMC Trading.

“I am honoured to finish as the first individual female out of over 10,000 participants. This is an encouragement for me, and for all females, to explore the field of trading,” Yu says.

During the event, competitors were challenged to combine Python skills, strategic insight and analytics to trade on a virtual market.

“I wanted to practice applying my technical skills learned in class to quant trading and compete against top talent worldwide. The competition was also in the format of a tropical archipelago game, so it seemed fun,” Yu says of deciding to participate in the challenge.

The contest provided an opportunity to gain insights into the world of algorithmic trading and the chance to compete alongside some of the best up-and-coming talent.

“I really appreciate the competition giving us exposure to many different algorithmic trading strategies over the rounds such as market making, pairs trading, and ETF trading. I also enjoyed the game theory aspect of the competition where I had to make a competitive bid/ask offer considering how other participants would quote,” Yu explains.
