Alumni-Student Mentorship Program
Our Alumni-Student Mentorship Program connects CS undergraduate students with supportive alumni of computer science who are working in the field, and are willing to share their academic and career experiences with a student mentee who is preparing for their own path.
How it Works
Apply to be a mentOR
CS alumni fill out an application form stating their areas of expertise.
Get Paired with a MentEE
After reviewing all the applications, we will pair you with an undergraduate student whose interests are compatible with your areas of expertise.
Connect
Connect virtually or in-person with your mentee at least three times between January and April.
(More details below)
What it takes to be a mentor
Students can benefit from your insights. Your own experience, and the journey from your undergraduate degree to where you are now, can be invaluable to a current CS student as they plan for their own future.
Becoming a mentor means that you should be willing to:
Share your experience, both the positives and negatives
Engage. Listen and have a dialogue with your mentee.
Act as a resource for your mentee
Expectations
In order to become a mentor for the program, we ask that you:
Attend the mentorship launch event on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (for mentors located in the Greater Toronto Area).
Meet with your student at least 3 times between January and April.
Optional — Participate in monthly in-person/hybrid events and connect with more mentees in the program (i.e office visits, career panel)
Note: The mentorship program is not a job placement service. Students are required not to solicit employment from alumni mentors and any attempts to do so should be brought to our attention.
Applications for the Winter 2026 mentorship program will open in October.
We encourage all alumni to apply! Due to overwhelming interest, mentee matching for returning mentors will be prioritized.
Comments from some of our past mentors
"The Computer Science Mentorship Program is invaluable to students/mentees for connections with experienced professionals as they navigate through their career journey. As a mentor, the relationships I build with mentees and mentors is enriching for my own career and mentor role."
"The DCS mentorship program has provided a valuable platform for us to give back, fostering a sense of belonging even years after my graduation. I am deeply grateful to all the mentors, mentees and staff who continue to dedicate their time and efforts to this meaningful program. "
"It is a thrill to see a young, bright computer scientist grow in knowledge, confidence and enthusiasm, eager to help create the future, knowing that you, once a young computer scientist yourself, have been able to contribute in some small way to their journey."
