Title: Computer-generated Architecture - The Smithsonian Courtyard
Presented By: Brady Peters, Daniels Faculty of Architecture, University of Toronto
Abstract:I will present the architecture and design of the Kogod Courtyard at the Smithsonian’s American Art Museum in Washington DC. This project was generated by a single computer program. This approach enabled the solving of complex geometric issues, the integration of different aspects of building performance, and the incorporation of fabrication requirements. I will then fast-forward to a brief introduction to some of the work I am doing at the University of Toronto which involves the development of robotically-fabricated acoustically-informed architecture and architectural surfaces.
Biography:Dr. Brady Peters is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, and a Director of Smartgeometry. In his research, Peters uses computer programming, parametric modelling, and environmental simulation to design performance-driven form. He received his PhD from KADK in Copenhagen, Denmark, and professionally, worked as an Associate Partner at Foster + Partners. As a key member of the SMG, Peters worked on many projects with complex geometry and integrated performance simulation.
