CSC Transfer Credits & Exclusions

If you have received a transfer credit exclusion for CSC148H1 and/or CSC165H1, please read the following information carefully if you are hoping to complete additional Computer Science courses or apply to a Computer Science Major or Minor program or Data Science Specialist program:

Transfer credits with exclusions to CSC148H1 and/or CSC165H1/CSC240H1 cannot be used for program admission for the CS Major or Minor or Data Science Specialist program. In order to be eligible to apply to a Computer Science Major or Minor program, you must complete CSC148H1 and CSC165H1/CSC240H1 on the St. George campus (along with additional enrolment requirements). To apply to a Data Science Specialist program, you must complete CSC148H1 on the St. George campus (along with additional enrolment requirements). Please review detailed program application information here:  https://web.cs.toronto.edu/undergraduate/how-to-apply/other-admission-categories

Because you must complete these courses on the St. George campus in order to be eligible to apply to the CS Major or Minor or Data Science Specialist program, but you have been given transfer credits that have exclusions to these courses, you must request enrolment in these courses directly from your College. The courses will be marked Extra (https://artsci.calendar.utoronto.ca/course-enrolment#extra-courses). Please discuss the details of Extra courses with your College at the time when you request enrolment.

Although transfer credits cannot be used for program admission, unspecified transfer credit with an exclusion to CSC148H1 and CSC165H1/CSC240H1 can be used to satisfy Computer Science course prerequisites (for example, for students who wish to take additional Computer Science courses without enroling a program).

Because you must complete these courses on the St. George campus in order to be eligible to apply to the CS Major or Minor or Data Science Specialist program, you may request to repeat the courses. To do so, you must request enrolment directly from your College. These repeated attempts will be assessed on the basis of the repeating previously passed courses policy and either the transfer credit or the course completed in the Faculty will be marked Extra, on the basis of the policy (https://artsci.calendar.utoronto.ca/course-enrolment#extra-courses). Please discuss the details of Extra courses with your College at the time when you request enrolment.

Although transfer credits cannot be used for program admission, transfer credit for CSC148H1 and CSC165H1/CSC240H1 can be used to satisfy Computer Science course prerequisites (for example, for students who wish to take additional Computer Science courses without enroling a program). Other programs that require or accept CSC148H1 for program admission may accept transfer credit – please confirm this directly with the program in question.
