Arrival On Campus

When you arrive in Toronto, please visit the Department of Computer Science Graduate Office, which is located in the Bahen Centre for InformationTechnology, 40 St. George Street, Room 4242. See campus map.

Information for Graduate Students, a brochure published by the School of Graduate Studies, contains most of the information you will need to register, pay fees, enrol in courses, get a T-Card, personal budgeting, health insurance, etc.

Desk Assignment / Keys / Mail Boxes / DCS E-mail

Your desk / office number will be assigned to you at Orientation or when you visit the CS Graduate Office.

Keys will be distributed by the DCS General Office, SF3302. You will need keys that will allow you access to your office, the lounge in SF3205, the building during non-business hours, as well as the photocopier and printer rooms, SF3204, SF4303, SF2114. Students whose offices are located in the Bahen Centre for Information Techonology need to first get their T-Card, then send an e-mail to doors@cs.toronto.edu with their full name, student number and the 16-digit barcode number from their T-Card. The card will be programmed to give you access to all required doors. Speak with your supervisor about getting keys to any other rooms to which you may need access.

Mail Boxes for graduate students are located in BA4239 for students located in the Bahen Centre, and in SF3205 for students in all other locations.

Email Addresses on DCS Web: Students in DCS are required to have a CS email address. When you receive confirmation of you CS email address, please update your information in the Director on the DCS Web Site. This email address will be used for all communication to you from the department.

Health Insurance for International Students

Many health care costs in Canada are covered by the provincial health insurance plans. In Ontario, this insurance is called OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan). International students and their families receive the same coverage through UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan). UHIP is a compulsory health insurance plan for all international students, exchange students, new permanent residents and returning Canadians who are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan - OHIP.

The UHIP premium is mandatory for all visa students who do not have equivalent coverage elsewhere, and it will appear as an incidental fee on your fee statement when you enroll in a graduate program. You must register for UHIP at the International Student Centre as soon as you arrive in Toronto.

General Health Insurance Coverage

Graduate students at the University of Toronto are eligible for a Graduate Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan. This plan covers some prescription drugs and medical coverage for accidental injuries.
