Stephen Cook wins Herzberg Gold Medal

Professor Stephen Cook was awarded the 2012 Herzberg Gold Medal, Canada's top award for Science and Engineering. Professor Cook was recognized for his pioneering contributions to complexity theory, computational theory, algorithm design, programming languages, and mathematical logic.

DCS Diamond Jubilee Medal Recipients

Four faculty members have been awarded with The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal: Stephen Cook, Michelle Craig, C.C. (Kelly) Gottlieb, and J.N. Patterson Hume. These medals were given to citizens for their significant contributions and achievements.

Women and Ambition Workshop
Friday 8 March, 4 - 6pm BA 2179

UWCSA invites you to attend a provocative discussion on how ambition plays out in the lives and minds of women in the sciences. Lil will share situations faced by successful women that suggest ambivalence towards aspects of ambition. She will particularly look at attitudes toward mastery and recognition and how these attitudes affect our professional lives.

Guest Lectures in CSC302
Thursdays at 11 am, BA1200

Matt Medland, invites members of the department to attend the guest lectures he has organized for CSC302H: Engineering Large Software Systems. This is a great opportunity to learn how software is built from people who are doing it.

Speakers include:

  • Gunnar Wagenknecht (CTO, AGETO GmbH, Eclipse Technology PMC) - March 21

Learning to write well is an important part of your University education. There are many resources available to help you improve your writing.

English Language Learning Communication Cafe

If your first language is not English, or you find academic English challenging, you might want to check out the ELL group. I know the Communication Cafe was very popular last year.
