Title: "Why you should go to conferences (and what to do when you get there)"
Technical conferences provide a unique opportunity to keep up with research in your field, to become familiar with other research areas of interest, and to network with members of your research community. You could come home from your next conference with new research ideas, new contacts, job/internship offers, or even all of the above. This happens only infrequently by accident, however, and it's all too easy to let opportunities slip away, unnoticed. This talk will outline strategies for getting the most out of your next conference, starting with several traps to avoid. Experience and comments from audience members will be a welcome part of the discussion.
