Faculty member Hector Levesque has been awarded the 2013 IJCAI Award for Research Excellence. The award is presented biennially at the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence to a scientist who has carried out a program of consistently high quality AI research, yielding several substantial results. The IJCAI Award for Research Excellence is considered one the most prestigious prizes in artificial intelligence. Past winners from DCS include Raymond Reiter (1993) and Geoff Hinton (2005).
Professor Levesque was recognized for his work on a variety of topics in AI knowledge representation and reasoning, including cognitive robotics, theories of belief, and tractable reasoning.
