DCS was awarded $2.4M from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) for the construction of a Centre for Collaborative Interactive Digital Media. The department hopes the Province will match this amount 1:1, and also anticipates an additional $1.2M in industrial matching funds for a grand total of $6M. The money will be used for major renovations to the 4th and 5th floors of Bahen, including the addition of lab space to the 4th and 5th floors of the Great Hall.
This grant has given DCS the exciting opportunity to take the lead on the university's digital media agenda. The creation and dissemination of digital media touches almost all activities of computer science, and the space increases and improvements will help increase collaboration within the department and across the university.
