by Professor Nick Koudas of the Department of Computer Science (DCS) and Nilesh
Bansal, a PhD student at DCS, was acquired by Marketwire Inc., a global leader
in communications technology.
"everything together" in Greek, Sysomos, an advanced social media
monitoring and analytics platform was created in 2005 as an advanced research
project by Bansal and Koudas and grew into a patented core-content aggregation
and analysis engine by 2006. In 2007 the company was incorporated in Toronto
and has commanded attention in the technology industry since.
follows the recent acquisition by Google of Bump Technologies Inc., another company
founded by a graduate student-faculty pair from DCS, Anand Agarawala and
Professor Ravin Balakrishnan.
Acting Chair of DCS states "Given the caliber of our faculty and graduate
students, it's no surprise that the cutting-edge research conceived at DCS is
commercially successful. We wish Nick and Nilesh the best as they move into the
next phase of their venture."
