First awarded in 1873 by the Earl of Dufferin, the Governor General's Gold Medal has since become one of the most prestigious awards that a student at a Canadian educational institution may receive. It recognizes the highest academic standing at the graduate level.
The Department is pleased to announce Dr. Kathleen (Katie) Fraser is among this year's three recipients, and the first Gold Medal awardee from the Department of Computer Science.
Katie is currently undertaking her postdoctoral studies with Dr. Dimitrios Kokkinakis at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, funded by the prestigious Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences.
Her graduate supervisor, Professor Graeme Hirst, accepted the award and read remarks Katie's behalf.
